Additional Muscle in Idiopathic Club Foot

Abstract

During the dissection of seven club feet of foetuses, aborted between the 25th and 37th week of gestation, an additional muscle bundle was found in a right foot. This muscle arose from both heads of the gastrocnemius muscle, continued downwards onto the posterior surface of the soleus, crossed the calcaneal tendon and assumed a position on the lateral side of the calcaneal tendon. The muscle's tendon was fixed just laterally to the calcaneal tendon in the calcaneal tuberosity with some tiny fibres branching off into the superior fibular retinaculum.

Résumé

Durant la dissection de 7 pieds bot de fœtus avortés entre la 25 e et 37 e semaine de gestation, un muscle additionnel était trouvé au niveau du pied droit. Ce muscle s'insérait aux deux extrémités du muscle gastrocnemius et courait vers le bas sur la face postérieure du soléaire, croisait le tendon calcanéaire et s'insérait sur la face latérale. On retrouvait cette insertion du côté du tendon calcanéen dans la tubérosité calcanéenne et quelques fines fibres vers le retinaculum fibulaire supérieur.

Resumen

Durante la disección de 7 pies equinos de fetos abortados entre los días 25 y 37 de la gestación encontramos un fascículo muscular adicional en el pie derecho. Este músculo se originaba desde ambas cabezas del músculo gastrocnemio y se dirigía hacia abajo en la superficie posterior del soleo, cruzaba el tendón calcáneo y se colocaba en su lado externo. El músculo se insertaba inmediatamente por fuera del tendón calcáneo en la tuberosidad calcánea y con algunas fibras finas en el retináculo fibular superior.

Zusammenfassung

Während der Präparation von sieben Klumpfüßen wurde ein zusätzliches Muskelbündel an einem rechten Fuß gefunden. Dieser Muskel nahm seinen Ursprung von beiden Köpfen des M. gastrocnemius, verlief dorsal des M. soleus nach kaudal und gelangte, nach Kreuzung der Achillessehne, an deren laterale Seite. Die Sehne des Muskels setzte lateral der Achillessehne am Tuber calcanei an, einige Fasern zweigten in Richtung Retinaculum mm. peroneorum superius ab.
