Introduction

The purpose of this article is to sum up the research on advanced endoscopic techniques used to diagnose and treat tumors of the upper gastrointestinal tract presented at this year’s Digestive Disease Week (DDW), held in Los Angeles. Twenty papers selected from 155 screened (Figure [1]) are discussed in detail, in sections devoted to the diagnosis of cancer and precancerous lesions [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8], endotherapy for early cancer and precancerous lesions [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18], and endotherapy for advanced cancer [19] [20]. This review does not cover research on the use of biomarkers for endoscopic diagnosis of Barrett’s dysplasia and cancer.
