Die Autoren schlagen die Anwendung einer neuen, zur Vermeidung von Komplikationen bei retrobulbären Injektionen hergestellten Kanüle vor. Im Falle einer hochgradigen Myopie stellen sie mit Hilfe der Ultraschalluntersuchung fest, ob der Patient ein posteriores Staphylom hat, das vom Gesichtspunkt einer Verletzung aus bedrohlich sein kann. In diesem Falle wird die retrobulbäre Injektion beim Ab- und Auswärtsblick verabreicht.
