Dear readers,

First I would like to express sincere thanks to all those who are crucial for the success of the Swiss Society of Ophthalmology (SSO) Klin Monbl Augenheilkd issue. The authors are to be thanked for their outstanding and carefully prepared contributions. You will find some of the most interesting presentations from the last yearʼs traditional 114th Annual Meeting of the SSO, which was held with great success in St. Gallen.

I would also like to direct your attention to those who are active in the background. These include, in particular, the reviewers, who contribute significantly to the scientific quality of the manuscripts and also give important suggestions to the authors. In this issue, more than 168 expert opinions were prepared.

Great thanks also go to the publisher Thieme and to the IMK team for their efforts.

The dynamics of progress of knowledge and new developments in ophthalmology is unbroken. The article “Contributions to Progress in Ophthalmology from Switzerland: From the 16th to the 21st Century” recently published in Ophthalmologica is worth reading for all but certainly also for the younger generation [1]. I would like to remind the young generation that we stand on the shoulders of giants and encourage them to publish.

I look forward to exciting topics and contributions in 2022.
