Arthur Roberts and Saul Hertz laid with the first radioiodine therapy in 1941 the foundation for Nuclear Medicine Treatment and also Theranostics Nuclear Oncology. Since this time the concept of using the same or similar radiopharmakon with either a diagnostic or a therapeutic radioisotope was refined continuously. Nowadays, the diagnosis and treatment of differentiated thyroid carcinoma using sodium iodine plays still an important role in the daily Nuclear Medicine practice and is therefore represented in this special issue in the very first article by Dr. Eilsberger and colleagues.
