Foreword Endoscopy – Issue 1
Dear readers, authors, and friends of Endoscopy,
On behalf of the Endoscopy Editorial Team, I would like to wish you a very happy 2025!
To our delight, our impact factor again broke records, at a historic 11.5. This achievement reflects the great quality of submissions, the efficient turnover time at the editorial office, and, above all, the trust and appreciation of readers and authors.
I would like to thank the Co-Editors and Junior Co-Editors for their continued dedication this year. In 2024, the rise in submissions made it especially challenging to select the usual number of papers for publication. Anticipating that this trend will continue in 2025, we have decided to extend the number of accepted papers as needed. This will allow us to better serve both our authors and readers by sharing even more meaningful scientific insights that can make a meaningful impact on daily clinical practice.
I gratefully thank Professor Philip Chiu and Dr. Marcin Polkowski who recently stepped down from their role as Co-Editors. In addition to being a Co-Editor, Professor Chiu was also instrumental in advising Asian authors on editorial matters, providing guidance and support. Dr. Polkowski has been Co-Editor for many years, and he will be sorely missed. He has been a deeply valued colleague, and we will miss his dedication and unique sense of humor. At the same time, we are also delighted to welcome Prof. Yuichi Mori from Japan to our Editorial Team and we look forward to the insights and expertise he will bring.
E-Videos is an open access online section of our journal, reporting interesting cases and new techniques in gastroenterological endoscopy. This section serves as a valuable resource for both trainees as well as experienced endoscopists and has been well received. Its popularity is highlighted by the increasing number of submissions accepted for publication in Endoscopy. We are thankful that Professor Klaus Mönkemüller joined as Co-Editor of this section.
After having served as Junior Co-Editor for 2 years, we said goodbye to Nastazja Pilonis (Poland), Xinyang Liu (China), Marco Spadaccini (Italy) and Andrei Voiosu (Romania). We also welcomed three new Junior Co-Editors, Julia Gauci (UK), Sunil Gupta (Australia) and Giulio Antonelli (Italy), who will participate in the trainee program for aspiring scientific journal editors in the next two years.
As a Journal we are concerned about the ecological impact of our endoscopic practice. To support sustainable practices, we highlight papers that address environmental concerns and offer solutions, with a “green stamp”. I am happy that in 2024 we awarded three papers with a “green stamp”. In these papers, direct or indirect outcomes of the study included environmental and sustainable impact, such as waste reduction and/or CO2 reduction. We look forward to an increasing number of papers that have an environmental impact as part of the motivation or execution of the performed endoscopic research.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to our Managing Editor, Hilary Hamilton-Gibbs, who, together with her dedicated team, has supported our editors, authors, and publishers over many years. A special thanks is owed to Liz Honner for her tireless efforts in managing the Editorial Office with such dedication and care. As our partnership comes to an end this December, I would like to express, on behalf of all the Editors, our appreciation to the entire Editorial Office team for their support, encouragement, and friendship throughout these years.
Finally, we extend our best New Year wishes to all our fellow endoscopists, endoscopy nurses and healthcare professionals, and to their families. May 2025 be a wonderful and happy year for you.
