Abstract

The effects of saikosaponins a, b 1, b2, c and d, isolated from the root of Bupleurum falcatum L., on membrane fluidity using spin–labelled erythroeytes were examined. Saikosaponins a and b2 in which the C–16 OH of epoxyoleanene skeleton is in β position caused the remarkable decrease of membrane fluidity but saikosaponin d and b2 in which the 16 OH is in a position showed weaker actions on membrane fluidity.
