Very Large Traumatic Duodenal Hematoma: Successful Percutaneous Drainage in a Child

Introduction

Duodenal hematoma after blunt trauma is usually treated conservatively. Surgery for hematoma evacuation is rarely indicated for complications or persistent symptoms. Percutaneous drainage is a widely adopted non-operative method for the evacuation of a hematoma at various sites. A duodenal hematoma can also be treated by percutaneous drainage in adult patients [2] [3] [4]. However, the experience with percutaneous drainage of a duodenal hematoma in children is limited [6]. We report here the case of a very large traumatic duodenal hematoma in a boy successfully treated by percutaneous drainage.
