Ein Viertel aller Deutschen leidet an Hypertonie, in der Altersgruppe der über 65-Jährigen sind es bis zu 50 % der Gesamtbevölkerung (16). Hypertonus ist als Risikofaktor für Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen seit langem bekannt. Antihypertensiva, wie die hier besprochenen Betablocker, zählen fachdisziplinübergreifend zu den am häufigsten verschriebenen Medikamenten.
