Der Schlaganfall ist die zweithäufigste Todesursache und der häufigste Grund für eine Behinderung in den westlichen Industrienationen. Obwohl schlafbezogene Atmungsstörungen das Schlaganfallrisiko erhöhen und die funktionelle Erholung nach einem Schlaganfall verschlechtern, sind deren Screening und Behandlung in der medizinischen Grundversorgung bisher nicht ausreichend etabliert.
