Zusammenfassung

Beeinträchtigungen kognitiver Funktionen gehören zu den Kernsymptomen depressiver und manischer Episoden. In den letzten Jahren mehren sich Hinweise, dass Defizite in der Aufmerksamkeit, im Gedächtnis und in den exekutiven Funktionen auch außerhalb von Krankheitsepisoden persistieren und mit einem verminderten psychosozialen Funktionsniveau vergesellschaftet sind. Neben krankheitsimmanenten Einflüssen, wie z. B. der Phasenhäufigkeit, kristallisieren sich genetische und Behandlungsfaktoren als Determinanten für kognitive Defizite im weiteren freien Intervall“ heraus. Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt bisherige Ergebnisse zu kognitiven Funktionen bipolarer Patienten im freien Intervall und ihrer Angehörigen ersten Grades dar.

Summary

Deficits in cognitive functioning are core symptoms in manic and depressive episodes. In recent years there is growing evidence that there are sustained deficits in attention, verbal memory and executive functions even in euthymic states of the illness. These cognitive dysfunctions are often associated with reduced quality of life and psychosocial functioning. In addition to clinical factors, genetic and treatment effects seem to impact on cognitive function. The following paper addresses cognitive function of bipolar patients in the euthymic state of the illness and their first-degree relatives.
