Reaction conditions for mono- or di-substitution of the chloro substituents in 5,6-dichloro-2H-benzimidazole-2-spirocyclohexane (4) by various nucleophiles (RNH2, R2NH, RS-, RO-) are reported. Conversion of 4-morpholino-5-phenylsulphonyl-2H-benzimidazole-2-spirocyclohexane 17 into other heterocycles, 2,1,3-selenodiazole 19, benzimidazole 20, and quinoxaline 21 are also described.
