(Arene)tricarbonylchromium alcohols are oxidized to aldehydes or ketones by either DMSO-TFAA (trifluoroacetic anhydride) or DMSO-SO3-pyridine reagents, with minimal complication from decomplexation or methylthiomethyl ether formation. Both benzylic and non-benzylic alcohols may be oxidized successfully, with a kinetic preference for the former.
