Summary:

Normal androgen activity through the DHT-AR complex is critical in the developmental procedure of sexual differentiation in the male embryo. Impaired androgen action during this critical period caused by abnormal AR, such as thermolabile AR, might explain ambiguous genitalia, in some cases with intersex. The weak AR mRNA expressions in cases with TI, and XX male with hypospadias suggest that there might be some regulational disorders at the level of message from the AR gene behind these phenotypes.
