The Alkaloids of Rauwolfia mombasiana Roots

Abstract

Fifteen indole alkaloids were isolated from the root bark of R. mombasiana and thirteen identified. The principal alkaloids were reserpine, rescinnamine, ajmalicine and ajmaline. The distribution of alkaloids throughout the plant axis is discussed. Reserpine occurs chiefly in the roots.
