Diabetes und Impfen

Menschen mit Diabetes mellitus haben ein krankheitsimmanent erhöhtes Infektionsrisiko. Impfungen stellen eine der wirksamsten und wichtigsten medizinischen Maßnahmen zur Prävention von Infektionen dar. Dieser Beitrag soll einen Überblick über die aktuellen Impfempfehlungen speziell für Menschen mit Diabetes mellitus geben.

Abstract

Diabetes affects T cell and B cell function, causing an increased risk for viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. Education of patients with diabetes, along with optimal glycaemic control, can minimize the risk of life-threatening infections. To this end it is of upmost importance that patients with diabetes receive all publicly recommended vaccinations in a timely fashion. The German Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) (Ständige Impfkommission beim Robert Koch-Institut, Berlin) publishes every year recommendations concerning vaccinations for the general population as well as specific recommendations for individuals with chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus.
