Significance

The presence of eight contiguous stereogenic centers, 10 nitrogen atoms and two guanidine residues makes the axinellamines a masochist’s delight. The Baran group’s synthesis features remarkably chemoselective oxidation and acylation of complex unprotected polyamines.
