Significance

Polymer-incarcerated, carbon-stabilized gold nanoparticles (PI/CB-Au) were prepared by cross-linking of the MC/CB-Au, which was generated from the reduction of Au(PPh3)Cl by NaBH4 in the presence of both polymer 1 and carbon black (CB) in diglyme. The aerobic oxidation of secondary alcohols 2 was carried out in the presence of 1 mol% Au of PI/CB-Au under 1 atm of O2 to give the corresponding ketones 3 in 57-99% yield (14 examples).
