Significance

Starting from cheap commercially available starting material, an enantioselective, scalable synthesis of tamiflu (oseltamivir phosphate) is reported. This synthesis features a desymmetrization of the dihydroxy-meso-diester F by enantioselective hydrolysis with pig liver esterase.
