Significance

Chiral amine-polyoxometalate hybrid catalysts 3 (CA-POM hybrid) were prepared by treatment of a POM acid 1 with chiral amines 2 in dry tetrahydrofuran. CA-POM hybrid catalysts 3a and 3b promoted the aldol reaction of ketones and aldehydes to give the corresponding products (neat conditions: 1 mol% chiral amine, 25 examples, up to 99% yield and >99% ee; aqueous conditions: 1 or 5 mol% chiral amine, 20 examples, up to 90% yield and 98% ee).
