Significance
Micellar ruthenium catalyst 5 was prepared by esterification of the free phenolic group in amphiphile 1 with acid 2, followed by the treatment with ruthenium complex 4. Catalyst 5 promoted the ring-closing metathesis of dienes 6 in water to afford the corresponding cyclic olefins 7 in 82-99% yield.
