Significance
In order to make the Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation (SAE) more environmentally benign, the authors developed an easily recoverable tetra-ol diester ligand that resembles Sharpless’ linked bis-tartrate ligands. The ligand provides as good selectivity and reactivity as standard SAE tartrates and can be recovered and reused after several simple procedures without losing selectivity.
