Significance
The authors report a highly diastereoselective Tiffeneau-Demjanov-type ring expansion for the formation of cycloheptanones possessing an all-carbon quaternary stereocenter. Using a chiral auxiliary approach the transformation could be carried out asymmetrically with control of remote stereocenters.
