Significance
The authors report an aza-Darzens reaction of ethyl diazoacetate with a variety of PMP-protected aldimines catalyzed by chiral phosphoric acid 1. Aldimines are generated in situ from phenyl glyoxal derivatives and 4-anisidine. The three-component reaction yields cis-aziridines in excellent yields and high enantioselectivities.
