Significance

The use of binaphthyldisulfonic acid as ligand or counter anion for lanthanum Lewis acid catalysis is quiet novel. High yields and enantioselectivities are obtained for the Strecker reaction for a range of aromatic aldimines. A dedicate amount of protic additive is also found very critical.
