Significance
An iridium/chiral P,N-ligand complex catalyzed hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated amides is developed. High conversion and enantioselectivities are obtained even with aliphatic amide substrates. The presence of hydrogen on the amide nitrogen is found to be crucial for good results.
