Significance

As an extension on previous research involving the enantioselective diboration of unsaturated hydrocarbons (Chem. Commun. 2007, 4717), the authors now describe a protocol for the asymmetric 1,4-dihydroxylation of 1,3-dienes by catalytic enantioselective 1,4-diboration. In addition, a stereoselective carbonyl allylation with the intermediate bis(boronate) ester is described.
