Significance
The sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P1) receptor is involved in the sequestration of lymphocytes into secondary organs thereby preventing them from causing an autoimmune response. Agonism of the S1P1 receptor may offer a treatment for multiple sclerosis. The target molecule induces lymphocyte sequestration in mice.
