Abstract
A simple methodology has been developed for the synthesis of N-aryl maleimides from N-aryl γ-lactam-2-carboxylic acids by decaboxylative oxidation and dehydrogenation with the oxidant NaIO4/LiBr in refluxing acetonitrile-water solvent.
