Significance

BCX-4208 is an inhibitor of purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP). It is currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of relapsed/resistant T-cell leukemia. The synthesis depicted in the scheme provided 25 kg batches of the drug.
