Significance

The authors have developed a new procedure for the α-alkylation of aldehydes and ketones that involves the direct use of alcohols and enol acetates in the presence of either InI₃, GaBr₃ or FeBr₃ as catalyst. The reaction is applicable to various types of alcohols and enol acetates.
