Significance
A multigram-scale synthesis of synthetically useful cyclopent-2-enol is reported. The key reactions of this synthesis include the highly efficient Noyori transfer hydrogenation to introduce the stereogenic center and the Grubbs ring-closing metathesis reaction to form the five-membered ring.
