Significance

Gold nanoparticles on hydrotalcites (0.06 wt% Au/HT) catalyzed the dehydrogenation of alcohols to give the corresponding carbonyl products in 31 to >99% conversion with >99% ­selectivity (12 examples). In the dehydrogenation of benzyl alcohol the catalyst was recovered and reused five times without significant loss of the catalytic activity.
