Significance
The authors describe a novel modification of the binol backbone of phosphoramidite ligands with asymmetric metal-catalyzed reactions. The introduction of the phenyl groups creates two additional stereogenic centers along the naphthalene-phenyl bond axis. However, all catalysts were isolated as single diastereomers.
