Significance

The catalytic asymmetric insertion of metal carbenoids into heteroatom-hydrogen bonds has only recently been realized and there are few reports of efficient catalyst systems for this important transformation. The asymmetric insertion into N-H bonds is an especially important goal as chiral amines are often found in pharmaceutically useful compounds. The authors report a copper-catalyzed enantioselective insertion of metal carbenoids into N-H bonds of primary and secondary amines.
