Significance
The synthesis and photophysics of air stable π-conjugated disilenes is described. By using the bulky ‘Eind’ group, the authors were able to kinetically stabilize the normally reactive Si-Si double bond. Whilst this method has been demonstrated previously, this is the first time that bench-stable disilenes have been reported.
