Significance

A sequence of Sonogashira coupling, alkynyl imine-allenyl imine isomerization, aza-Diels-Alder, and elimination-aromatization ­reactions is reported. Thus, 1,6-diynes and imid­oyl chlorides are converted into substituted 2-azaanthracenes in high yields.
