Significance

This work describes the rhodium-catalyzed hydrothiolation polymerization of acetylenic monomers with dithiol monomers. The polymerization procedure affords polymers with high molecular weights (MW = 31500) and good to excellent stereoselectivity. The procedure is compatible with a variety of acetylenic monomers affording access to a diverse family of sulfur-rich poly-mers. The authors use the resulting polymers in a myriad of materials applications, including fluorescent photopatterning, aggregation-induced emission, and photomodulation of refractive indices.
