Significance

This paper describes a highly reactive asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones catalyzed by copper-monodentate phosphine complexes. Since the cost of copper is much lower than other metal species commonly applied as hydrogenation catalyst, this reaction could be an excellent alternative to develop an economical and environmentally friendly asymmetric hydrogenation.
