Significance
The paper describes a novel copper-catalyzed reaction for the synthesis of benzofurans and indoles using terminal alkynes and N-tosylhydrazones. The N-tosylhydrazones are easily obtained from the corresponding ortho-hydroxy- or ortho-aminobenzaldehydes.
