Significance

Gold is an excellent metal for the activation of π-bonds towards nucleophilic attack (see Review below). Based on their previous work on non-chiral substrates (Org. Lett. 2008, 10, 669), the authors have developed a highly stereoselective gold-catalyzed synthesis of chiral tetrahydrofurans and morpholines from allylic alcohols.
