Significance

Decursivine, which was isolated from the Vietnamese plant Raphidophora decur­siva shows activity at 4.4 g/mL against chloroquine resistant strains of the parasite Plasmodium falciparum which causes malaria. This synthesis was published back-to-back with a paper by Jia and co-workers (Synfacts 2011, 929) and uses the same key Witkop cyclization cascade.
