Significance
Pd-MCM-48 was found to promote the Sonogashira coupling reaction. The coupling of phenylacetylene (3a) with iodobenzene (4a) was carried out in the presence of mesoporous silica supported Pd nanoparticles, Pd-MCM-48 (2), to give diphenylacetylene (5a) in 85% yield. Various acetylenes and aryl halides underwent the Sonogashira coupling reaction under similar reaction conditions to give the corresponding products 5 in 65-90% yield.
