Significance
The authors describe the syntheses of heterocyclic homotriptycene scaffolds via carbocation chemistry. The precursors were synthesized by an efficient alkylation-reduction sequence to afford the alcohol compounds which subsequently rearranged to the heterocyclic homotriptycene frameworks in the presence of acid.
