Significance

While metal-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar addition of azomethine ylides to α,β-unsaturated enones are known (e.g., see: C. Nájera et al. Eur. J. Org. Chem. 2009, 5622; I. Oura et al. Org. Lett. 2010, 12, 1752), the authors report the application of this methodology to trisubstituted α,α,β-­cyclic enones in the synthesis of quaternary stereogenic carbon centers in high enantioselectivity.
