Significance
A mixture of H2PdCl4 and carbon thin-film-lined SBA-15 (SBA-15©) was exposed to H2/Ar (1:9) at 400 ˚C to give SBA-15©-supported Pd nanoparticles, Pd@SBA-15© (eq. 1). Pd@SBA-15© catalyzed the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of aryl halides 1 with phenylboronic acid 2 to give the corresponding biaryls 3 in up to 99% isolated yield (9 examples, eq. 2). In the reaction of iodobenzene with phenylboronic acid, the catalyst was recovered by simple filtration and reused five times without significant loss of its catalytic activity (5th reuse: 96% GC yield).
