Abstract
This article features normal function and dysfunction of human olfaction. There has been an increasing interest in olfactory dysfunction since it was realized that olfactory loss is a common sign of neurodegenerative diseases such as idiopathic Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and Huntington's chorea. State-of the-art techniques for the assessment of olfactory function are presented. Current therapeutic approaches to the restoration of olfactory loss are discussed.
