Significance
The asymmetric addition of alkynes to nitroolefins is a useful method of an enantioselective formation of a C-C bond. The nitro function can be easily converted into a ketone or an amine, and the triple bond is readily reduced or oxidized. This approach opens routes to a number of synthetic targets.
