Significance

Isolated from Phakellia mauritiana, dibromophakellstatin is a pyrrole-imidazole alkaloid that displays significant cytotoxic activity. Total synthesis of this molecule is necessary to provide material for further biological testing, as only modest quantities have been isolated from nature.
