Significance

Highly substituted pyrrolidines were synthesized via a Yb(III)-catalyzed three-component reaction in good to excellent yield. A broad range of functionalities were compatible under the mild reaction conditions. In general, the diastereoselectivity was good to excellent except when in situ generated imines were derived from anilines or some heteroaryl aldehydes.
